Asthma & Breathing Conditions

All of these wildfires have us evaluating our breathing and the condition of our lungs.
Did you know that acupuncture can help a variety of acute and chronic breathing problems, including emphysema, chronic bronchitis/COPD, asthma, pulmonary hypertension and lung fibrosis? Acupuncture can help the lungs and ribcage expand easier and improve circulation. It can help decrease histamine and other allergic responses. It can move fluids to break up phlegm. Over time, it can decrease airway inflammation and improve lung function.
Acupuncture can have a big impact on the quality of life, making it easier to move around with less shortness of breath and/or chest pain. We have had patients need less or no supplemental oxygen after regular acupuncture treatments, able to exercise easier without inhalers and even sleep better. Acupuncture can be used along with medication and oxygen support. We may offer adjunctive techniques, such as cupping and percussion. We often recommend Qi gong, which is a series of movements that can also help open the lungs for easier breathing. There are Chinese herbal formulas along with supplements for both lung issues and allergies.
