One of the most common questions I get asked is about kids and acupuncture. While all kids respond differently, most enjoy getting acupuncture.
Acupuncture looks a little different for kids. We may choose to do acupressure or shonishin to stimulate the acupuncture points or channels. We may insert a needle and remove it immediately. We may leave it in for a song and then remove it. As kids get older, they can generally tolerate longer periods of time.
Just like adults, we can use acupuncture to treat a variety of conditions in kids, including digestive problems, skin conditions, anxiety and depression, ADHD, and insomnia. We also treat a lot of sports injuries and frequent colds/flus.
My own kids started getting acupuncture very early on, they were a few months old. They ask for acupuncture anytime they are sick.
We can also use Chinese herbal medicine for kids. We carry a variety of Blue Poppy Pediatric Tinctures. The Tender Teeth tincture was a life saver at my house for teething babies. There are also tinctures for cold/flu, upset tummies, bedwetting, and more.
My Visit to the Acupuncturist is a great book to let kids learn about acupuncture
Purple cloud ointment is a favorite
