Why acupuncture works when nothing else helps back pain

Back pain is one of the most common reasons people finally try acupuncture — and often, it’s after everything else has failed.

Many of our patients come in after trying physical therapy, injections, surgeries or medications. Some have been living with pain for months or even years. What surprises them most is how acupuncture works differently.

Acupuncture doesn’t just treat the location of the pain — it treats the underlying cause.

In many cases, chronic back pain isn’t simply a structural problem. It’s the result of muscle guarding, nervous system imbalance, inflammation, and reduced circulation to injured tissues. When the nervous system stays in a protective state for too long, the pain cycle continues even after the original injury has healed.

Acupuncture helps break this cycle.

Acupuncture signals the nervous system to relax, improves blood flow to tight and injured muscles, reduces inflammation, and allows the body to finally shift out of pain mode and into healing mode.

Static Back Release is one of my favorite "stretches" for back pain

This is why patients often notice:• decreased pain and stiffness• improved mobility• muscles that finally relax• longer-lasting relief

We may utilize other therapies to help manage chronic pain, such as red light therapy, PEMF mat, anti-inflammatory IV blends, massage and craniosacral therapy, herbs & supplements, infrared sauna and functional medicine.

If you’ve been dealing with persistent back pain, your body may simply need the right signal to reset and heal.
