Don't let PMS irritate you anymore!

PMS is common but it is not normal! I see women all the time that are miserable in the days or week before their period. They feel irritable, angry, rage, hateful, or even like they are crawling out of their skin. It may be just feeling extra crabby but can be so much more. I have seen patients end up needing inpatient psychiatric help during this time, and conventional medicine has little to offer outside of birth control, It affects our relationships with our partners, kids, friends and work.

It is often worse the first few years after starting your period, as a teenager, and in perimenopause. Life stressors compound the problem, as well as not enough sleep, poor diets and inactivity or excessive exercise.

The good news is that acupuncture and Chinese medicine are often effective treatments for those high emotions premenstrually. We often combine regular acupuncture, especially in the week before you period starts, along with Chinese herbal medicine. We may adjust exercise routines, to change the intensity of physical activity.
